National Nature Photography Day, June 15th, 2026 under 250 words
Today we are encouraged to take the time to take a walk and photograph some of the plants and animals you encounter. I have selected five photos of my nature walks. I have included five postcard poems to go with them. Enjoy this virtual walk.
Rhubarb
green fan leaves
thick strawberry stems
handed down
from Dad’s garden
to mine
promising pies

Two squirrels,
one black walnut.
He eyes his mate, retreats,
taking the nut in her paws, gnawing.
Eating for two.

A monarch poised
on the sill,
still for so long,
investigate,
flurry of orange and black,
take wing,
gone!

Butter Shine
Standing tall, above the dying lilies.
Soft yellow petals shine, reflect color when placed under chin.
Indicates a butter lover.
Buttercups reveal truth.

three fawns
chase each other
across our yard
No doe in sight
they nibble their way
to the neighbor’s hostas
