This season can be a creepy time. Children running in costumes with adults in tow. We will sit on our porch with treats and toys to offer.
My home town of Northville in 2013 started a tradition with full size skeletons dressed and posed in front of businesses. For example, they are dressed in yoga clothing and preforming the downward dog pose in front of the yoga studio. The displays have grown more complex, each year. This year, there are over two hundred dressed and posed skeletons in and around the city. Displays include: The Hotel Transylvania, A wall of spiders and skeletons playing instruments in the bandshell. The celebrations conclude with all trick or treaters invited to the community center for fun, food and awards. Living
now on the far from Northville, I still celebrate All Hallows Eve. In my little village of Ada, There is a ghost tale about the Lady in White. Read below for the tale as a poem.
&&***. poem
In early eighteen hundreds, the settlement Forks was renamed Ada.
For the Postmaster’s daughter.
The legend concerning a lady in white.
She haunts the woods on full moon nights.
Her lover to seek.
A jealous ax wielding husband she did meet.
Killed with the first blow.
The two men wrestled
wounded, both die.
Only the lady haunts the road near the grave.
One hears footsteps.
Feels a cold dampness, sees a blueish glow.
She may whisper, touch your arm.
Don’t follow!
It will be your end.
The Hunters moon is Monday night.
The Ada witch will try to fright.
I’ll stay indoors.
Out of sight.
Her name is lost.
The marker covered with moss.
Some will search.
To catch the sight.
She means no harm, only to fright.
