We have been experiencing a strong El Nino. Since June. We have had record rain in the spring, heat in the summer and a dry mild fall without a freeze. The plants and trees know better than Mother Nature. They are slowing, shutting down the flower production to to increase seed production. Many trees have turned turning, drying leaves to be shed to form a colorful carpet. The oak changed from purple to brown losing their leaves in one night of rain.
Trees to the west, the woods appears lacy with sunlight. The woods to the west are still thick and green. Looking to the north, the woods are holding on to their fall colors. One small maple is bright with pumpkin orange hues. On the floor of the woods there still are bushes that are green.
usually by October 25th, the trees have shed their foliage, not this year. We have birds looking to nest for the night in dying flower baskets.
The weather report for the next week predicts a freeze next Friday, a full four weeks after we normally expect it.
Long predictions calls for a mild, snowy winter. We will have to wait and see.
